The painter SAX (Herbert Baerlocher 1943 - ) grew up in
Basel, Switzerland and has been a resident of Kyoto, Japan for over two
decades. He practices color painting as well as the ink brush.
The works and texts reproduced in his catalogue "SAX - Werke aus Kyoto
1991-96" document experiences along his path through life where he
witnesses, in accordance with the teaching of BÙ Yin R‚, his own
self-transformation. Comments John Koerner: "If we listen attentively to his
persistent voice and perceive the subtle disclosures in the vocabulary
of his written words and the metaphors enclosed in his pigments we are
immeasurably enriched. For he presents us with gifts of a happy, joyful
perspective based on his trustworthy experience as well as his
authentic intuition. His words and images are prophetic."
SAX - Werke aus Kyoto 1991-96, 72 pages, 21 color
reproductions, texts in German or English, $20 (available from:
